Urad (उड़द)

उड़द (Black Gram), also known as Vigna mungo, is a widely cultivated legume in India, particularly for its nutritious seeds. It is an essential crop in many parts of Asia and is grown both in the Kharif (monsoon) and Rabi (winter) seasons.

  • Medium semi-spreading plant type with dark green leaves.
  • Stem color is green with slight hairs; flower color is yellowish with bunchy pod arrangements.
  • Grains are bold with black color, pods have no hairs with 4-5 grains/pod.
  • Tolerant to sucking pests, yellow vein mosaic, and powdery mildew diseases.
  • Tolerant to shattering of pods.
  • 1000-seed weight is approximately 45-50g.
  • Crop matures in 70-75 days.
